Within in the Grand Palace complex lies the most exotic Buddhist Temple in Thailand. At the heart of this temple is fabulous Buddha Image carved from on piece of Jade. This is the holiest and most revered religious object in Thailand today.
Nearby the Temple, is the Grand Palace once the official home of the Kings of Siam. The palace is built in traditional Thai architecture mixed with European designs.

The Grand Palace has an area of 282,000 square meters and is surrounded by walls built in 1782. Within these walls are situated Government offices and the chapel Royal of the Emerald Buddha which is beside the Royal Residences.
When Siam restored law and order after the fall of the Ayutthaya Kingdom, the monarch lived in Thonburi, which is situated on the opposite side of the Chao Phraya River.
King Rama, upon ascending the throne, moved the centre of royal administration to this present location. He began erecting public monuments, fortifications and monasteries. This palace to serve not only as his residence but also housed the offices of his various ministries. |
